In her day-to-day work, Savannah spends a lot of time sitting down with customers. She discusses what they want to achieve and thinks about how this can be realised technically and functionally. What she enjoys most is the moment when everything comes together. A customer shares their story, and as she listens, a picture of the possible solution starts to form. Not only what needs to be built, but also how it can be done.
That translation requires more than knowledge alone. It is about truly listening, asking follow-up questions, and posing the right questions to arrive at the best solution together. Savannah finds it special to see how her insights help customers move forward. Hearing afterwards that customers are genuinely happy with what has been delivered gives her great satisfaction. That feeling of truly helping someone is at the core of her work.
Working in IT requires people skills.
IT is often seen as a world of hardcore programmers and “full-on nerds,” but Savannah emphasises that IT is much more than just coding. Especially in her role, communication, overview, and connecting different disciplines are key. You switch between the interests of users, the organisation as a whole, and what is technically possible, while keeping the bigger picture in mind. That helicopter view and those people skills are essential to running projects smoothly.
There is therefore a real need for roles where organisational skills, empathy, and communication are central. Roles where different talents come together. This makes IT a versatile field in which many more people can recognise themselves than is often assumed. It is an accessible working environment for a wide range of profiles and talents.
