Lionel made a conscious career switch to IT later in life, without a traditional IT background, but with a strong creative foundation and the motivation to challenge himself all over again. At X-Center, he found a work environment where learning is central, where there is room to discover what suits you best, and where collaboration forms the foundation. In his story, Lionel explains how guidance, flexibility, and teamwork help him grow step by step into an IT professional.
From creative work and hospitality to IT
Lionel’s career started far outside of IT. He spent many years working in hospitality and was also involved in graphic design and creative projects. Creativity played a significant role, but so did problem-solving and making connections. It was precisely that analytical way of thinking that eventually led him towards software development.
The decision to retrain was not easy. Lionel was already a bit older when he chose this path and combined his studies with working in hospitality. One day a week at school, a lot of self-study, and at the same time, searching for a place where he could gain practical experience. Through his education, he found his way to X-Center. From the very first conversations, there was a clear connection, and he felt confident that he would truly be given the space to grow here.
Guidance that moves with your development
What immediately stood out to Lionel at X-Center was the way guidance is approached. It goes beyond onboarding or transferring knowledge; it is about understanding who you are and where you want to go. Within the team, there is a strong focus on what you already bring and where your talents lie, so you can be placed where you will learn the most.
Several colleagues actively take the time to talk with Lionel about his future in IT. Together, they explore different directions, such as SAP, OpenText, data, or document management. These conversations are open and concrete. When Lionel expresses a particular interest, X-Center looks at how this can be supported through training, courses, or new projects. This makes the guidance personal and future-oriented.

At X-Center, you are never on your own. You are given the freedom to learn while constantly growing together with the team.
Freedom and flexibility are the foundation for growth
For someone who is retraining, space is essential. Lionel experiences a great deal of freedom and flexibility at X-Center to combine work and learning. There is an understanding that you will not know everything right away and that development takes time. At the same time, he is encouraged to take initiative and responsibility as soon as he is ready.
That balance between freedom and trust allows Lionel to feel safe while learning. He can ask questions, try things out, and make mistakes without pressure. This allows you to progress faster and build confidence in a new field.
Learning and growing together as a team
Teamwork plays a significant role in Lionel’s day-to-day work. He is never on his own and sees colleagues actively helping each other and sharing knowledge. Whether it’s technical challenges or personal development, there is always someone to spar with. This not only makes learning more effective, but also more enjoyable.
According to Lionel, this may be X-Center’s greatest strength: growing together. Everyone contributes to the team, regardless of experience. That sense of involvement ensures that retraining does not feel like a leap into the unknown, but like a journey you take together. For Lionel, X-Center is therefore not just an employer, but a place where he can truly build his future.
Retraining takes courage, commitment, and the right environment.
Retraining into IT is not an easy choice. It requires perseverance, discipline, and the willingness to start over. Lionel experiences that X-Center does not underestimate what this step involves. There is a realistic understanding of what retraining entails and what support is needed: no empty promises, but clear expectations and concrete guidance.
Because X-Center invests in people who want to learn, there is room to grow in a way that fits you. Whether you are just starting out or still exploring your direction in IT, you can become a professional step by step, not by figuring everything out on your own, but by building knowledge, trust, and prospects together.
