The foundation for Agentic AI In SAP and OpenText ECM environments

X Center Experts in OpenText and SAP document management 00002

Everyone is talking about AI. But who has already invested in it before a client asks?

More and more organizations have moved past the question of whether to adopt AI. The question now is how to do so without losing control of their data. That was the common thread running through a series of international events this spring: the OpenText Summits in London, Paris and Munich, and Google Cloud Next 2026 in Las Vegas. Two stages, one message: agentic AI only delivers value when the information behind it can be trusted.

For organizations working with SAP and OpenText Extended ECM, this is not an abstract observation. It directly impacts how SAP document management, archiving, and compliance are structured. The key insights below show what this means in practice.

Data governance and sovereignty as the foundation for AI in SAP and OpenText

At the Summits across Europe, the same need kept surfacing: organizations in financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and the public sector want to demonstrate where their data resides, who has access to it, and how it is managed. Not as an after-the-fact compliance exercise, but as a starting point for the design.

The key signal here is that data governance and sovereignty are no longer seen as a brake on innovation but as the prerequisite for deploying agentic AI at scale in the first place. Organizations that do not have their OpenText ECM landscape in order and that lack a grip on licenses, ownership, or data residency will hit a wall the moment AI applications actually go into production.

That is precisely what we work on at X-Center every day: helping organizations structure their SAP and OpenText environments so that growth, compliance and AI adoption are not separate tracks but rest on a single foundation. This perspective also carries into how AI is applied within existing workflows.

OpenText Content Aviator on Google Cloud: agentic AI within your existing SAP processes

At Google Cloud Next 2026, it became clear how this principle plays out in practice. OpenText Content Aviator was presented as an agent within Gemini Enterprise, available in the Google Cloud Agent Gallery. The idea behind it is simple but powerful: AI only delivers value once people actually use it, within the tools they already work with.

What this example illustrates above all is the difference between a generic AI assistant and an AI solution grounded in managed, authorized business information. An AI agent that searches, summarises or generates insights is only useful if the underlying content is reliable and the correct access rights and compliance requirements are respected. Context without control produces noise, not answers.

AI Track: building knowledge before it is needed

As a company, we are right in the middle of the same movement. To genuinely guide clients through their AI journey, you need to have lived it yourself first. That is why X-Center has set up a structured internal learning program.

That is why X-Center has set up a structured internal learning program: the AI Foundation Training. A program in which employees build practical LLM skills at their own pace, from the first API call to building and deploying fully functional agentic AI systems. Progressively structured and always with a direct translation to our field: OpenText Extended ECM and SAP document management.

What sets this program apart is that it never stays abstract. The first module already involves running a local language model to summarise OpenText release notes without sending data outside. A later module covers building an RAG assistant that answers questions from the actual OpenText Content Server documentation. The final capstone: a fully deployed ECM AI agent that converts a client letter into a migration plan, checklist, and risk matrix.

Between modules, we come together as a team to discuss what works, what does not, and what we can apply directly to our work with clients.

The result is not a certificate that ends up in a drawer. It is a team that genuinely understands how RAG, fine-tuning, and agentic workflows work and can put that knowledge to use immediately when a client asks, “How do we deploy AI within our OpenText environment?”

That question is coming. And we are ready for it.

What this means for SAP document management and OpenText ECM

The themes from these events connect directly to the challenges we see at clients:

  • Standardized management as a foundation. Fragmented application management and unclear ownership make every next step, including AI, unpredictable and expensive. Standardized platform management for OpenText ECM is not a luxury; it is a prerequisite.
  • Archiving with structure. A standardized approach to SAP archiving and data archiving ensures that information remains findable, compliant and available, even as AI applications come to build on top of it.
  • Insight before automation. Reporting and insight within SAP document management give organizations a clear view of their own landscape, the essential first step before agentic AI can add real value.

Making your OpenText ECM AI-ready: from document storage to intelligent information

A classic ECM system such as OpenText Extended ECM reliably stores, manages, and retrieves documents, but it was built to store and find content, not to understand it. An AI-ready ECM adds a layer on top of that: content that is clean, properly classified, digitally readable and made accessible with rights awareness, so that agentic AI can safely search, summarise and answer questions. You get there by progressively making your existing, years-long accumulated content AI-ready: deduplicating and cleaning up, running OCR on old scans, enriching metadata and revisiting access rights. That way, legacy documents also become usable without having to rebuild everything from scratch.

This is not a future scenario. At X-Center, we work on this every day and deploy our own developed modules to do so. One example is Metabooster, built by one of our own people, which automatically enriches and standardizes metadata. It is precisely this layer that transforms an OpenText Content Server from a storage system into a foundation on which agentic AI can genuinely build.

The core: trust scales with your ambitions

The organizations that will make real progress with AI in the coming years are not necessarily the fastest adopters. They are the organizations whose information management is in order: clear ownership, predictable governance, and data that is demonstrably under control. Only then does agentic AI become an accelerator rather than a risk.

At X-Center, we see this reflected every day in conversations with our clients. Whether the topic is Managed Services, cloud migrations or SAP archiving, the question is increasingly not whether AI will play a role, but whether the foundation is ready for it. That transition from a traditional ECM system to an AI-ready information infrastructure is precisely where we help organizations in concrete terms. The result is a more direct path from readiness to action.

We will keep a close eye on AI developments within OpenText ECM and SAP document management and share our insights and expertise with our clients. Curious about how your SAP or OpenText environment is positioned? We are happy to think along with you. The foundation is ready when you are ready to move.
